Mindset
You'll unravel the secret of jazz in order to discover the musicians' mindset. Changing and improvising for the sake of the groove. Choosing new directions in a split second. No two improvisations are the same. Ultimate freedom. How do the jazz greats describe it?
"I’ll play it first, and tell you what it is later." -- Miles Davis
"I hate straight singing. I have to change a tune to my own way of doing it. That's all I know." -- Billie Holliday

Just imagine. Different co-workers every day. Everyone is new, from colleagues to management and shareholders. New expectations and goals every 24 hours. A kind of “super job rotation”. Unbelievable? In jazz this is called a jam session. Playing with strangers. Not knowing what will happen next.
The original definition of the word “jazz” is a bit of a slight to musicians. “Jazz” originally meant something like "mess", but what it sounds like is “tidy, well-defined.” Almost as if it's written out note-for-note. You often hear enchanting improvisations, thanks to the special “rules of the game” and the flexible and inventive attitude of the musicians.
In 1942 the renowned jazz giant Duke Ellington was in attendance at the birth of this tradition. During the Second World War the jam sessions in New York caused an uproar.
